On 21 May 2026, Europlatforms attended the UIRR General Assembly held in Brussels, focused on the state of Combined Transport in Europe and on the main challenges currently affecting the sector.
Discussions during the Assembly highlighted how 2025 closed with a moderate but positive growth for Combined Transport, with increases in both consignments and tonne-kilometres transported across Europe. At the same time, several concerns emerged regarding infrastructure disruptions and long-term railway corridor closures, particularly in Germany, and their impact on intermodal freight operations and logistics chains.
The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the strategic role of Combined Transport in supporting the European Single Market and the transition towards more sustainable freight transport solutions, as well as on the importance of continued investments in terminals, intermodal assets and rail-road logistics services.
Europlatforms’ President Alberto Milotti and Secretary General Andrea Ballarin attended the General Assembly, taking part in discussions with representatives of the European intermodal and Combined Transport community on the future development of efficient and sustainable freight transport networks in Europe.
